You need to sort the site out - others have commented, but the bottom line is even if you manage to attract people to visit your site it is unlikely to hold their attention. So consider the design carefully, make it simple and easy to use because….

….the most cost effective way of marketing your business is to develop word of mouth.

People need a reason to come back to your site and pass the URL on. So use a blog to create regular, fresh content for people to come back to. Something like Blogger is good enough.

Each blog post needs to be easy to share. I’m sure you’ve seen those “Share” links on the bottom of pages that allows you to tell people on Facebook, Linkedin, diggit and so on about your site. They’re easy to set up and can be embedded quite simply into your site.

Get out there as well, get onto Twitter and tell people when you’ve updated your site, same with Facebook, Myspace, Bebo and whatever else you can think of. Be wary of being a little too “in your face” about the updates though - you may end up being labelled a spammer - and remember to give a little back with retweeting and links to other interesting sites and articles that you might come across.

The most important thing, though, is to have some patience. It is going to take a few months for your site to start building that critical mass that means repeat visitors. When that happens you should start to see the cash coming in. But for now, be patient, keep plugging away.

I get all my website traffic for free.
1) Start with good SEO - focus on a searchable keyword group.

2) Article marketing. That is writing keyword articles and submitting them to directories with links to your site in the author’s bio.

3) Submit your site to high PR free directories. Just search and you’ll find tons.

4) Use a link in forum signatures that allow them. Get active on forums about your topic and post good posts and people will click your link.

5) Viral marketing. Give away a quality ebook or piece of software or something like that which includes your website info and links.

6) Blog and submit your RSS feeds to directories and feed reader services.

Those are the free methods that work great for me!

Well you either do that, just pay the fine or contest the ticket. When I got a ticker For going 59 in a 30, my father hired a lawyer and, he made the ticket “go away.” Of course, in my state I didn’t have this option. I suggest going to traffic school. Even though I got off, I learned my lesson. I think parent’s sometimes forget that paralyzing fear and, anxiousness you get when you are pulled over for the first time. I actually threw up after I got my first ticket. Although, the cop who gave me the ticket had a serious attitude… I know what I did was wrong and, was nothing but apologetic.

“On or after August 1, 2009, please contact California Traffic Safety Institute (CTSI) at (661) 940-1907 to request or select from a list of DMV approved classroom or court approved home study online traffic school programs.”

Los Angeles County has had online traffic school for years. I can’t believe it’s taken Orange County this long to approve it. But make sure it’s a court and DMV approved school. They’re not all acceptable. The link you posted is an advertisement and may or may not qualify.

I’ve been reading a report from the USA in Aug 2008 that shows Google drives 80% of all traffic to a web site, then Yahoo 10%, then Bing 8%.

I’ve looked for recent comparative UK data but have been unable to find it. Can anyone give me the rough percentages for the UK market?

It depends on the site, of course, but a recent figure for UK search shows about 90% of searches in the UK are done through Google. Yahoo and Bing have about 3.4% each. Google really dominates in the UK compared to the U.S. Where it’s a bit more competitive.

Good News & Bad News. Good news is that buying visitors for your web site is actually pretty cheap. You can usually get 1000 visitors for as little as $3. Bad news is that if you are selling a product, the traffic does not convert as well as other means of getting visitors to your site. However, I use this method to regularly get traffic to my sites and find it to be fairly profitable. I think it depends on where you get the traffic from (some providers are better than others). I use http://www.buy-site-traffic.com because they offer options that let me accurately target which visitors I want them to send me.

For example, I sell a product that earns me $20 for each sell. The traffic I buy only converts at a rate of about .5% (pretty low). However, that means I usually get 4 or 5 sales for every 1000 visitors I buy giving be a nice $77 to $97 profit. Not too shabby. If you sell a product, then I think you will be able to make some decent money using this approach.
