How do we get free traffic from Google?

This is something you’ve experienced first hand countless times. You visit your favorite search engine. Enter the words you’re interested in. And then you visit one or more of the sites that show up. Turns out that the website you visit just got free traffic from the search engine. So the real question is how you get that free traffic.

If you’re like most people you only click links on the first page or two. In fact, the first page of results receives almost all the free traffic. And believe it or not, the first 3 results receive over 70% of the traffic.

So to get any significant amount of free traffic from Google, you really need to be on the first page. And this means Google needs to “rank” you as a top 10 result. And this bring us to…

What is SEO?

SEO means that your website is clearly about something specific, Google knows that that is and thinks others will agree and find your site useful. The intricate formula Google uses to figure this out is really only known by Google. But there are several things that we know for sure.

Getting indexed

First, before you can get ranked highly, Google has to know you exist. This is known as being “indexed.” What this means is that Google visits your site and records information about it in their database.

To get indexed, you have to help Google find your site. Getting a link from another site will accomplish this easily. Google will actually follow the links on sites it already has indexed to find new sites and index them.

Use your Twitter and Facebook updates to get quick indexed links to your site. Because these sites are indexed multiple times every day. So your new link will get indexed very quickly.

Gaining ranking

After this first hurdle, you need to start gaining ranking. Due to the massive size of the Google database - literally billions of pages - just getting indexed doesn’t do much for you.

There are three components of gaining ranking:

• Content
• Links
• Activity

Content strategies

This is the SEO you do on your site itself. And it means that the content on your page matches the keywords you’re targeting. Obviously, the article you’re reading now is about search engine optimization. One way Google figures this out is from the fact that it contains the term SEO. And another way this is determined is by the other related phrases like traffic generation that are also in the article.

The title of the page, the domain name and other pages on your site are also important. These all play a part in helping Google determine what your website is about.

Link strategy

Next, you need to pay attention to the links to and from your site. The links coming in and the links going out are included in this. You want to make sure you have more inbound links than outbound links. So the number of inbound links is important.

Article spinning is a super easy way to get a bunch of inbound links. To accomplish this you start by writing an article that targets the keywords you’re after. You have to also write several different versions of your articles. And then upload a different versions to a bunch of sites that allow you to add content. The more sites you can do this for, the more links you’ll get back.

Increasing your activity

And lastly, it’s seems clear that Google expects important pages to be actively updated. A page that was created 3 years ago and hasn’t been touched since won’t rank well. Regular content updates to your site are expected. RSS feeds are an easy way to keep your content changing.

But the best way is with active discussions on your page itself. This means you need to get real live people to your site, as well. Online forums are simple source of real live visitors.

Create profiles on lots of forums about your site’s topic. And post their often. Then put a link to your site in your profile. This gets you inbound links. And it gets people to visit the site you link to.

Conclusion

It’s important that you do everything listed here. Unfortunately, rewriting your articles again and again. Setting up tons of profiles on forums. And visiting all the sites to post up your comments and articles takes a really long time. Which means you probably won’t end up doing it.

Fortunately, you can get rank builder software to do all the grunt work for you. So my best advice is to automate as much of this as you can. Otherwise, you won’t do it at all. And if you don’t do it, you simply will not ever get free traffic from Google.

OK, but how?

There are 3 factors in list building you need to consider:

• The Squeeze Page
• The Incentive
• The Opt-in Success Page

The Squeeze Page - The squeeze page is the first thing your visitor is going to see. This is where they will enter their email address. So, obviously it has to be well designed. It’s also got to be free from distractions. And have a clear call to action.

The biggest mistake you can make is not having a clear call to action. This “close” tells your visitors what you want them to do. And if you don’t include it, they won’t opt in. Oddly, if you don’t make it clear, people will be confused and end up doing nothing.

One way to really spice up your squeeze page is to add a compelling video to the page. Adding video will help keep your visitors attention. And you can repeat the call to action several times int he video. And you can have the video just tell them to fill in your form after it’s done playing.

It’s OK, if you’ve never made a video before. It’s very easy to hire people for a couple hundred bucks to make one for you. There are also list building systems that give you squeeze page templates.

The Bribe - The second component is the reason they are opting into your list. People need a good reason to part with their email address. Nobody likes spam, so most people guard their email closely. So you have to give them a good reason to do it.

You have to provide value in your bribe for it to be good. Then it becomes something people want to get from you. And will be able to actually benefit from it. For example:

• A free report
• Software
• A video
• An email training series

You’ve got to create some great content. And make it both helpful and informative. And nothing sells like “free”. Bottom line is it’s got to be worth more to them than their email address.

Now, if you don’t know how to create the bribe don’t worry. Here again, you can hire freelancers to create this for you. Simply tell them what the topic is and they can write the content. For example, you could have them write a 5-part email course. Each email will cost between $20 and $25. So, a great premium will cost you around $100 - $150.

First, it must provide value to your subscribers. And second, it needs to make you money. The easiest way to do this is to market affiliate products in the emails. The Thank You Page - The last bit is the thank you page. This is the page your subscriber sees after they opt in. It’s nice to give them some great content right away. That way, they feel glad that they gave you their email address. And it helps you establish the relationship. Then they’re more receptive when you email them.

You can use a “done for you” email marketing system. Or you can go the DIY route. And write it all yourself. Or pay a freelancer to write the content for you.

If you want to make more money as an affiliate, you must presell.

Before we start, let’s talk about what preselling actually is. Preselling is both an art and a science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then when they’re ready, refer them to the product website so they can buy it. If you do it well, it’s completely invisible.

The gist is that you give your reader some useful information. Then send them to the sales page. We’ll get into how to do it correctly in a minute. Before we get into that, you should understand what’s in it for you. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.

• It helps your reader trust you - Readers who trust you are more likely to click your links. And the more traffic you can send to the sale page, the more commissions you’ll earn.
• It takes your reader out of defense mode - When you’re not hyping or pitching a product, your reader lets their guard down. This means they are more open to what you’re saying. And your intention is conveyed more easily.
• It puts them in a buying mood - Now they trust you and feel open to your message. Being open means, they are open to everything you give them. This includes the sales website you send them to! Being open to a sales message is what it means being in a buying mood.
• It increases your sales - You’ve prepped them and referred them in the right state of mind. With the guard down and trusting your recommendation. The only possible result is more sales!
• Your customers are happier - Plus, they feel they’ve made the buying decision on their own. Versus being pitched or convinced. So they are happier with their purchase.
• It boosts your profits - A satisfied customer doesn’t ask for a refund. Which means you keep more of your affiliate commissions.

Obviously, it’s important to presell. You make more money. Your customers are happier. It’s a win-win-win!

How does it work?

OK, now you understand why it’s so important. So, hopefully you’ve decided to start preselling. So, it’s time to break down how it works. Remember, there are two components - art and science.

The art of preselling

Effective preselling requires gaining your readers trust in order for them to let down their guard. Honestly, the only way to do this is to provide real value in you content. Now, providing enough info to be useful, but still making them want more - that’s the art of it. So you send them to the product website with a hunger for more of what the product provides. Plus they’re not guarded, so they’re more open and likely to purchase the product.

It’s also a science

There are also several key elements that need to be included.

One of these key elements is the presentation of the information. You need to know where you’re going before you begin. Your goal is to sell the product you’re promoting. There are two ways to accomplish this with great content. First, you can provide useful but incomplete information. The second way is to provide all the information and let your reader discover how hard it is to actually implement it. Whichever method, you send them to a product website that solves the problem you just created.

But you can’t link to your affiliate link. You have directly to the home page of the product. This increases your clicks. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? There’s a trick to make this work… You use an image tag to cookie your reader before they leave your site.

Next, you want to make sure you’re linking on related words and phrases. Hyperlinked words are clicked more than anything else. And if the words you hyperlink relate, your reader will naturally click them for more information.

What you have now is a super powerful system for affiliate marketing success.

Unfortunately…

This process is not easy – at all! Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Good content. First and foremost, you have to be able to write a great article that provides valuable information. To do that you have to have enough information to be valuable and be able to present it in a useful way. Writing to presell. Yes, you must providing useful content. And you have to make the content accessible in order to provide value. And somehow also make them want to learn more. The other approach is to reveal a self-evident problem through the information.

Picking products. You also need to determine what products you’ll be preselling. Even if you get the article written. Your efforts are completely wasted if you don’t pick a winning product.

The technical know-how One of the keys to this system is using “covert cookies” for the tracking. This is pretty easy – you just make a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image with no border and make the “source” of the image your affiliate link. First - Look for Fanatics

If you want your membership business to be profitable, you have to find a marketing with fanatics in it. What’s a fanatic? It’s someone who is so excited about a certain topic that they will spend their time and money on information about it. Now that we know what we’re looking for, let’s talk about how to find them…

• One simple idea that’s easily forgotten is to scan the magazine racks when you’re out and about. Because it’s becoming harder and harder to keep print periodicals profitable these days, if you see a magazine on the shelves, you know it’s making money. And that means there are lots of people interested in it. That doesn’t mean definitely that it will make a good membership business, but it’s a good starting point.
• Watch and listen for fanatics in your daily life. Pay attention to conversations, social events, TV, restaurants, public places to see what people are talking about. If people are talking about it, they are interested in it. Which means you can start a membership business providing information on it.
• Don’t forget about clubs and organizations. If there are enough people to to build a club, there are certainly enough people to start a membership site on the same topic. Conventions are expensive to hold and attend, so if one if going on that’s another strong indication of a good niche to go into with your membership website.
• What about your interests and hobbies? If you’re interested in something, it’s highly likely others are, too. And, as an added bonus, it’s much more fun to build a business around things you’re interested in.
• One simple and easy way to find out what’s hot is Google Trends. This service shows you the current most popular search terms. The reason people are searching Google for info on these topics is because they are interested. And the fact that it’s made it into Google Trends tells you LOTS of people are interested. Building a membership business around things people are actively searching for is a great way to ensure your success.

Step 2 - Determine the financial feasibility

Once you found a potential niche or topic to center your membership site around, you need to figure out if you can actually make any money in it. An easy way to determine this is to figure out if anyone else is making money in this niche.

Here’s a punch list for figuring out if anyone’s making money in your niche:

• Are there blogs or forums in this niche? Take the name of your niche and search for “niche name blog” & “niche name forum” in Google to see if there is an active group of people talking about and interested in the niche. This means there is a large group of people already assembled for you to market to.
• Search Amazon, Google shopping and eBay to see if people are creating and selling products in the niche. It’s a good sign if there are because it tells you people are making money here.
• Watch Google Adwords for a period of time and look for ads the run again and again. Adwords ads are expensive, so people only run them repeatedly if they are profitable. And to be profitable, they have to be selling products and making money.

Step 3 - Determine ease of entry

OK, so you found a hot topic and you know other people are making money on it. Will you be able to get involved and do the same? Here are some things to look at to figure this out:

• Figure out what kinds of products people are interested in. If it’s mostly physical products, coaching and live seminars, then it will be harder to break into this niche. That’s because it’s much easier to build a membership business around information vs. any other kind of product.
• The next thing to look at is the competition. You don’t want to try to break into a saturated marketing, so figure out how many people are already selling in this niche.
• Compare the size of the market versus the number of competitors. Some competition is a good sign - just make sure the market is big enough for you to join in.
• How quickly do people in this market make buying decisions and are the ready to buy? Every market is different. Sometimes people are looking for information and are ready to pay for it right now. And sometimes it takes weeks, months or even years for them to make the decision to purchase.

Putting it all together

At this point you’ve figured out what niche you’re going into. You found your fanatics, you know they spend money and you’re confident there’s room in the market for you. If you’ve done your homework, your business will be a success because you already know your market is a profitable one with room for you.
